Bittersweet Anniversary

Another year of recruitment has come and gone. I didn't know that I'd be so emotional, but you can bet that during my last preference party I cried as Kelly, Kristen, and Hannah gave their speeches. I remember feeling excited and nervous on pref day, and beyond happy on bid day. I know that I never thought that Alpha Delta Pi would help me to grow to become the woman that I am today. Joining a sorority was just a fun way to get more plugged into Baylor, give me an outlet for service opportunities, and to find some friends. ADPi gave me those things. But, just as Kelly said, my membership has challenged me not only to do better in my classes or to do more service, but to be a better woman. I have found my place in something that is bigger than me. I have contributed to something that goes beyond whatever tiny contribution I can make in my time at Baylor. Aside from helping me develop my leadership and communications skills, the other ways in which ADPi has changed me are too personal to put up on a public blog.

One of the most important things about ADPi is that these women are not just my sisters in name, they are the embodiment of sisterly love. They are there for me when life is difficult, and love me just as I am.

I know that when I see our new Alphas walk in to our room tomorrow that it will be a bittersweet moment. It will signify a changing of the guard. My time as a collegiate member of Alpha Delta Pi is coming to a close, and it is almost time for me to become an alumna, a Pi. The great thing is that there are alumnae associations pretty much everywhere, and I know that I will never stop being involved in this organization. As a senior, I am now able to understand just how much my time as a Delta member has really been characterized by change and growth. The Alphas that walk into the room tomorrow won't have a clue just how much Alpha Delta Pi will impact them, but I hope that when they are all seniors they can look back on their experience as collegiate members and see how Alpha Delta Pi has challenged and supported them.
