Change

The time after college graduation can be stressful. Many new grads are moving back in with their parents or staving off the real world with graduate school.

Mark, unfortunately, did not have this option. He knew that he would be moving to Chicago right after graduation and would need to find a job quickly. Thankfully, he was able to find a job through a fraternity brother in less than a month. I could write a big long post about the positives of Greek life, but for now I think it suffices to say that the brother who made sure to hand deliver Mark's résumé to the hiring director and gave him a recommendation had never met Mark in person.

The process went by quickly, but was intensely nerve wracking. Mark would have a telephone interview, then wait to be notified if he was going to have a face-to-face interview. After the face-to-face interview we waited to get a call saying that he would have one last phone interview. And then we waited to hear back from the first interviewer to find out if he would have a job. All of that waiting was absolutely awful. There is not much more one can do except for hope, pray, and continue reaching out to companies for other job opportunities. When the final call comes, though, it all seems worth it.

While Mark signed his offer in January, he does not officially start until Monday. These past few months, we have been able to go grocery shopping together on Wednesday afternoons and take leisurely walks whenever we felt like it. Now, Mark will be hopping on the bus to go downtown to work every day. While he can't wait to finally start work, our schedules will look fairly different. I might go grocery shopping alone on weekdays, or we might brave the throngs of working men and women on weekends. Workouts will be early in the morning. Trips downtown will be reserved for dinners or weekend dates. It feels like adulthood is officially starting. Are we adults? What is an adult? When does one make the transition from adolescence to adulthood? Is it when you turn eighteen, or graduate from college, or get your first salaried job, or get married, or buy a house, or have children? I don't even know, all I know is that we are in for some exciting changes--and, hopefully, some warmer weather soon.

Also, there is a wonderful breakfast that I like to have when it is cold outside. Quinoa never seemed like something to eat for breakfast, but apple cinnamon quinoa is delicious. Click here for the recipe which is over at Fit Foodie Finds. Seriously, y'all, it is delicious.
