I love making bread, and I've been using
this recipe to make about two small loaves a week. Mark really wanted to make some french toast this morning, so we left a loaf out to harden last night.
 |
| Goodness, I love making bread. Turning flour, water, yeast, and salt into edible bread is really something else. |
 |
| Attempt to resist slicing and buttering your bread before it has cooled. It is hard, I know, but so worth it. |
I made the bread, so Mark made the french toast in the morning. Did I mention that we are having our first ever houseguest (Mark's dad) arrive today? We've been deep cleaning and trying to make sure everything would be perfect for our very first visitor. Naturally, Mark goes to put some powdered sugar on the toast he had just made.
 |
| Maybe the powdered sugar thought Mark needed it more than the toast did? |
 |
| A preview of what Mark's hair will look like once it starts going gray. |
He was breaking up a clump in the powdered sugar by shaking it in the bag. According to him, he accidentally squeezed the bag whilst shaking it. The outcome was a kitchen covered in powdered sugar, mere hours before our guest was to arrive.
 |
| The scene of the crime |
While the powdered sugar did manage to get all over Mark and all over the kitchen, none of it happened to get on pieces of french toast. Not a single, solitary speck.
Remember how a few posts back I said something about not having accent pillows yet? Well, with a guest coming we just
had to get some.

| Do they match? I'm not sure. I just thought that they were individually pretty. |
I have had a notoriously black thumb with everything from avocado seedlings to potted houseplants. One of the guys at the farmer's market was selling some seedlings, so I picked up some parsley and named it Pete. Pete the parsley plant has grown a lot over the past week and isn't dead yet! I'm excited to start harvesting from it in a few weeks.
 |
| See that little ting sprout in the middle? That came up last Monday. |
 |
| Now that once little sprout is still in the middle and is covered by the larger leaves, but you can tell that it has grown quite a bit just since last Monday. |
Mark also recently participated in a 3.5 mile race, which he thought was supposed to be a 3K. He ended up averaging roughly 9:47 a mile, which is pretty dang good considering he hasn't been training for a race.

All I did was go to yoga after going to the farmer's market. I swear I don't just wear yoga clothes to the farmer's market for fun. I wear yoga clothes to the market because we left a little late and we didn't think I'd have time to go home and change and walk to the gym in time for class.
 |
| We stopped at Starbucks on our way to the gym from the farmer's market. Our Trader Joe's bag is holding chorizo, asparagus (purple and green), tomatoes (red, yellow, and orange), dino kale, and chives! |
 |
| The chives we picked up at the market had buds, which we were assured were edible. We tried some yesterday and the flowers taste like (you guessed it) onions! We want to put them in salads and on top of soups, because there is something so cool about eating a flower that tastes like an onion. |
Someone was selling cut peonies at the farmer's market, so we picked up a few for our table.

Next week, I'll post a bit about what Vince's visit was like--especially some of the food we make.
