Simple Pleasures

I have completely moved in to my apartment. I still have some decorating to do, but everything is unpacked and put where it belongs. Since I finally have internet, I have a short blog post about simple pleasures in life.

I left my blender in Plano. This would not be such a big problem if I had a food processor or immersion blender. Alas, I have none of those things. I have a lot of other great cooking gadgets with which I can make some delicious dishes. But I can't make salsa without my blender. Whoops.

Today, I drove out to The Container Store to grab a few little things. While I can get around Hyde Park and the university by bus fairly easily, I have not yet mastered the surrounding Chicago area bus system. There are several problems with that. The first is that gas costs anywhere between 4.26-4.65 on any given day. The second is that parking is usually limited and very expensive. I cannot adequately describe how relieved I felt when I found out that TCS had its own free parking lot. That, my friends, is simple pleasure numero uno.

To top that off, guess what was just down the street. Someone handing out blenders? No. Crate and Barrel? Yes. Crate and Barrel giving away free food processors or immersion blenders? Sadly, no. An Uncle Julio's restaurant? Heck to the yes. And there we have simple pleasure number two: chips and salsa. The thing is that an order of chips and salsa from Uncle Julio's is not just about getting to have some chips and salsa. Uncle Julio's is a reminder of home. I don't know where UJ started, but to me, it reminds me of nights out with the family eating an obscene amount of chips and salsa and trying to still find some room for our fajitas when they came to our table.

To wrap that all up for y'all: a free parking lot and some chips and salsa made my day. What has made yours?

P.S. Eventually, I'll write up a blog post about the actual move to Chicago and what life is like here. Math camp starts on Monday, though, so don't hold your breath. Not that you were going to hold your breath or anything.
