For all those who do not want to read an entire post, here is a quick summary of the move from Plano to Chicago: one mom, one sister, one fiancé, one cat, one car, one U-Haul, one thousand miles, one non-stop drive.
We left Plano around 9:30 at night because we wanted to drive straight through the night and arrive at my apartment before four in the afternoon the next day. That is with three drivers and two cars (read: only one person gets to nap/relax at a time).
As you can imagine, we had a lot of stops. Between snack stops, restroom stops, the cat accident stop, stops to make sure that the drivers were still capable of driving, and the unexpected nap stop, we didn't get to my building until after four. Whoops.
The major problem was that mom and I found it quite difficult to drive at night. The night part of the drive felt absolutely interminable. It was so bad that by five in the morning, mom and I needed some sleep. Since Mark can't drive two cars at once, that meant that we needed to stop. We took about a two-hour nap and conquered the rest of the drive with a speed and determination that I did not think possible. I'm pretty sure I drove the U-Haul faster than it was ever meant to go.
Upon finally arriving at my apartment, we immediately moved everything upstairs. Four sleep-deprived, hungry, irritated people brought up everything that had filled up a pretty darn big U-Haul and my little car. It was a task.
I don't know if we did this move the best way or not, but it certainly was fun. We listened to silly music, dealt with an unhappy cat, and spent so much time together that we should have been absolutely fed up with each other. Somehow, we just laughed everything off.
Thank you to all those who wished me luck before the move! Life in Chicago is everything I expected and a good deal more. To all those who just wrapped up moves (big and small), congrats! To all those looking forward to a big move in the near future, may your moves go smoothly!
